Biological Activity | The carrier effect of Recombinant Human Serum Albumin/HSA was determined by enhancement of cell proliferation using TF-1 human cells. Stout, et al. (2022) Commun Biol 5:466. Cell proliferation in TF-1 human cells was induced in a dose-dependent manner by Recombinant Human IL-3 (Catalog # EXRP037) and demonstrated >25% enhancement in the presence of rHSA. |
Purity | >98% under reducing conditions by SDS-PAGE and quantitative densitometry by Coomassie® Blue staining. |
Endotoxin | <0.01 EU/1ug (<10 EU/mg) of the protein as determined by the LAL method. |

Carrier effect of rHSA is observed in the cell proliferation in TF-1 human cells treated with Recombinant Human IL-3 (Catalog # EXRP037) in the presence of 25 ug/mL rHSA. The carrier effect due to rHSA does not alter the ED50 in this assay. | Recombinant Human Serum Albumin/HSA Protein, Animal Component-Free (2 ug/lane) on SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) conditions. The gel was stained using Coomassie® Blue showing a single band at 67 kDa and purity greater than 98%. |
Background
Alternative Names | Albumin, HSA |
Function | Human serum albumin (HSA) is an approximately 66.5 kDa protein with diverse functions including maintenance of pH and osmotic balance in biochemical assays and culture systems, along with functioning as a carrier protein that binds and transports a wide range of small molecules, including fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and metal ions. Additionally, HSA functions as a stabilizer of proteins and enzymes with properties that limit denaturation, aggregation and proteolysis. Due to these functions, recombinant HSA restores many of the transport, protective, and buffering roles lost when serum is removed from chemically defined cell culture media. |
