| Function | Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) is a protein with roles in cell growth, motility of cardiomyocytes, branching morphogenesis, angiogenesis and tubulogenesis of blood vessels. It is produced by mesenchymal cells and acts primarily upon epithelial cells, endothelial cells, hematopoietic progenitors, and T cells, exerting its effects through a high-affinity receptor known as the c-Met receptor (HGF R). HGF is expressed as a preprotein that is cleaved to form the alpha and beta chains that create the mature heterodimer. |
